Ryzen 9 or EPYC: which one should you pick?
It's the question our customers ask most often. Both families power our lineup — Ryzen 9 on Apex and Titan, EPYC on Quantum and Singularity — and each has its own playing field.
Frequency versus density
The Ryzen 9 7950X boosts up to 5.7 GHz. The EPYC 9354 tops out lower, but packs 32 cores per socket. In short:
- Ryzen 9: maximum per-core performance. Ideal for single-threaded or lightly parallelized workloads — game servers, PHP, heavily serialized databases.
- EPYC: massive core density. Perfect for containerization, batch processing, parallel workers.
Our internal measurements
On our test bench (same RAM, same NVMe):

The simple rule
If your application can't use more than 8 threads, take Ryzen 9: every thread will be faster. If you parallelize massively, EPYC wins everything with its density.
