How to choose your first VPS without mistakes
The question comes up every week at support: "which plan for my project?". Here's the method we use, formalized.
Workload before numbers
Forget spec sheets for a moment. Ask yourself three questions: is my application single-threaded (PHP, games, bots) or massively parallel (containers, workers)? Does my data fit in RAM? Is my audience geographically concentrated?
Single-threaded → favor frequency (our Ryzen 9). Parallel → core density (EPYC). Insufficient RAM → nothing else matters.
The three selection traps
Price first. A heavily oversold €4 VPS costs more in lost hours than a proper VPS. Overestimated storage. 100 GB of NVMe covers 95% of use cases. Neglected location. 100 ms of latency eliminated is often worth more than 2 extra vCores.
Our decision table
Bot or small site: Apex. Serious game server or mid-size e-commerce: Titan. Complete Docker stack or heavy load: Quantum. AI, large e-commerce, consolidation: Singularity.
